Challenge
A UKCS operator required a temporary backup power solution for an offshore asset undergoing decommissioning. The existing backup power supply, provided from a neighbouring platform via a subsea cable, was subject to recurring trips, creating a requirement for a more reliable solution to maintain continuity of power. THREE60 Energy was initially engaged to develop a work breakdown structure (WBS) estimate for the provision of temporary backup generation.
Solution
THREE60 delivered the engineering, design, procurement and offshore implementation of a temporary backup power solution. The scope included the removal of three existing generator sets to create the required platform space, followed by the supply and installation of two 1,250 kVA generators and modifications to the existing switch room.
A changeover arrangement was also engineered to integrate the temporary generators with the existing power infrastructure, enabling continued operation alongside the asset’s existing gas turbine generators and supplementary power supply.
Throughout the project, THREE60 managed the engineering and offshore interfaces required to safely integrate the new equipment within the existing brownfield infrastructure.
Result
THREE60 successfully delivered the full scope through engineering, procurement and offshore implementation, including commissioning and start-up of the new generator system. The solution restored reliable backup power to the offshore asset, providing the resilience required to support ongoing decommissioning activities.
