Challenge
A UKCS operator engaged THREE60 Energy to assume production well operatorship of six wells on a Southern North Sea platform, comprising five producing gas wells and one suspended well.
The transition required the review, audit and migration of existing well data from the incumbent integrity management system into THREE60’s Well Integrity Management System (WIMS), while ensuring alignment with UK regulatory requirements.
Alongside establishing effective management of well integrity throughout the production phase, a number of existing challenges required attention. These included limited integrity testing, underperforming tree valves and the need for improved spares management and maintenance practices.
The operating model also needed to demonstrate effective management of Safety and Environmental Critical Elements (SECEs), well intervention activities and emergency response requirements.
Solution
THREE60 implemented a comprehensive WIMS covering all relevant SECE requirements, supported by a dedicated team responsible for well integrity, maintenance, technical data and records.
Existing well information was systematically reviewed, audited and migrated into WIMS, creating a robust foundation for ongoing integrity management.
Regular WIMS reviews and audits were undertaken alongside the independent well examiner, including successful Regulation 5 audits. THREE60 also maintained ongoing engagement with the regulator to support compliance and alignment with industry requirements.
Structured spares management and fit-for-purpose maintenance schedules were introduced to address existing integrity and reliability challenges. This included SECE reviews, equipment testing and revised maintenance procedures targeting areas such as underperforming tree valves.
THREE60 also provided technical support to the Duty Holder during emergency response exercises, combining in-house expertise with dedicated emergency response facilities.
Result
THREE60 successfully transitioned into the production well operator role, with the efficient review, audit and migration of well data supporting a smooth transfer of responsibility.
The wells achieved compliance with UK regulatory requirements, including successful Regulation 5 audits and positive engagement with the independent well examiner.
Within six months, SECE reviews, equipment testing and updated maintenance procedures had been completed, addressing key integrity challenges and strengthening well reliability.
The programme moved the asset from a challenged integrity position to green integrity status, establishing a robust well integrity and maintenance regime to support continued safe and reliable production.
