Challenge
THREE60 Energy was engaged to support the plug and abandonment of multiple wells associated with a complex offshore facility.
Previous operations had resulted in induced seismicity, creating significant technical, environmental and stakeholder sensitivities around the subsequent abandonment programme.
The challenge was to develop a robust P&A methodology that would enable the wells to be safely abandoned while minimising the risk of further seismic activity. The programme also required careful management of technical interfaces, procurement and stakeholder considerations throughout project development.
Solution
THREE60 commenced with high-level well engineering to evaluate potential abandonment methodologies and establish an approach designed to manage the risk of induced seismicity.
Following selection of the preferred methodology, the team progressed into detailed well engineering and execution planning, developing the technical basis required for procurement of the drilling unit and associated integrated well services.
THREE60 supported an extensive tendering and contracting process covering key elements of the offshore campaign, including the drilling unit and integrated services.
The team also managed specialist supporting scopes, including geophysical and geotechnical site surveys, to provide the information required for offshore execution and maintain alignment with the project schedule.
The role subsequently expanded into well management support, providing continuity from early engineering and planning through procurement and preparation for offshore execution.
Result
THREE60 developed a robust well abandonment programme incorporating measures to manage the specific risk of induced seismicity while supporting safe and controlled execution.
Key drilling and integrated service contracts were successfully progressed, alongside the specialist surveys and engineering required to prepare the programme for the offshore phase.
The project demonstrates THREE60’s ability to combine specialist P&A engineering, well management, procurement and stakeholder support to develop an executable solution for technically complex and highly sensitive well abandonment programmes.
