Challenge
A multinational operator engaged THREE60 Energy to provide independent technical due diligence in support of a potential asset acquisition in Africa.
Limited asset information and production history created significant uncertainty around development viability, project definition and commerciality. The assets also presented a range of infrastructure and development challenges, including water depths of approximately 450m to 1,500m and complex interfaces across offshore and onshore infrastructure.
The operator required an independent engineering assessment of the proposed development concepts, with particular focus on technical feasibility, execution risk, project schedule and the robustness of associated capital cost estimates.
Solution
THREE60 undertook a targeted technical review of the available virtual data room information, focusing on facilities engineering and associated project documentation.
The team evaluated key engineering information including basis of design documentation, cost estimates, project schedules and early-stage conceptual design information.
The review examined topsides, subsea, pipeline and onshore interfaces to identify critical gaps, inconsistencies and areas of technical or execution risk. Key assumptions relating to design flowrates, project phasing, infrastructure availability and logistics were also challenged and cross-checked against the available evidence.
Findings were structured according to technical risk, missing information and potential commercial implications, providing the operator with a clear view of where uncertainties could materially affect development planning, cost or execution.
Result
THREE60 provided the operator with a risk-based register of critical uncertainties, prioritised requirements for additional information and scenario-based considerations for further technical assessment.
The independent review established a clear evidence base around engineering uncertainties and project delivery risks, enabling the operator to approach the acquisition process with greater technical clarity and supporting informed commercial evaluation and negotiation.
