Supporting Subsea Umbilical Integrity in Offshore Angola

THREE60 Energy designed and manufactured an enhanced Subsea Electrical Test System (SETS) to support the integrity management of a subsea umbilical offshore Angola.

THREE60 Energy designed and manufactured an enhanced Subsea Electrical Test System (SETS) to support the integrity management of a subsea umbilical offshore Angola.

Designed for ROV deployment in water depths of up to 3,000 metres, the system provides subsea electrical testing capability to help assess umbilical condition and identify potential integrity issues.

Challenge

The client required a reliable method of assessing the electrical integrity of a subsea umbilical in a deepwater environment, within a demanding project timeframe.

The solution needed to test both insulation resistance and continuity resistance at significant water depth, while being suitable for deployment and operation by ROV.

Solution

THREE60 designed and manufactured an enhanced version of its SETS technology, adapting the system to meet the specific requirements of the project.

The ROV-deployed equipment was designed to operate at depths of up to 3,000 metres, providing insulation resistance and continuity resistance testing. THREE60 also supplied offshore technicians to support delivery within the required project schedule.

Originally developed as a fault-finding tool for low insulation resistance issues in the North Sea, SETS has continued to evolve in response to different client and project requirements.

Result

The enhanced SETS provided the client with a specialist deepwater testing solution to support the integrity management of its subsea umbilical offshore Angola.

Combining purpose-built equipment with offshore technical support enabled the client to undertake the required electrical integrity testing within the project timeframe.
