An existing level bridle was showing signs of significant external corrosion and required replacement. Traditionally, capturing the dimensions needed to fabricate replacement pipework would involve a manual offshore survey and ‘stringing’ process, requiring specialist resources and additional time offshore.
THREE60 Energy deployed its Scan2Fab® technology to provide a faster, more efficient route from offshore survey to fabrication-ready drawing.
Challenge
The challenge was to accurately capture the dimensional data required for the replacement spool while reducing the time, resources and cost associated with traditional surveying methods.
The solution also needed to be straightforward enough to allow existing offshore personnel to capture the required data without mobilising additional specialist survey resources.
Solution
THREE60 trained the offshore platform team remotely through a Microsoft Teams call and dedicated training video, enabling existing asset personnel to carry out the Scan2Fab® survey.
The pipework was scanned in approximately 30 minutes, rapidly capturing the dimensional data required for the replacement. Once complete, the scan was transferred to THREE60’s onshore engineering team, who were able to begin work within an hour.
Scan2Fab® was then used to translate the captured data into the information required to produce the fabrication drawing.
Result
The complete process from offshore scan to issued fabrication drawing was achieved in less than 24 hours, with the physical survey taking just 30 minutes.
By using existing asset personnel and removing the need for a conventional offshore survey, the approach reduced engineering and survey time, associated costs and the carbon footprint of mobilising additional personnel – demonstrating a faster and more efficient route from identifying an integrity issue to fabrication-ready information.
