THREE60 Energy has supported Serco Maritime Services with lifting asset maintenance requirements across its UK fleet since 2016, helping maintain high safety standards while improving the efficiency of inspection and testing activities.
The scope covers more than 100 defence tugs and NorthLink Ferries, with THREE60 providing specialist LOLER inspections and load testing at locations across the UK.
Challenge
When THREE60 took over the contract, lifting equipment inspections required multiple visits to individual vessels, increasing the time and cost associated with maintaining compliance across a large and geographically dispersed fleet.
The client required a more efficient approach that would maintain inspection standards while reducing unnecessary visits and expenditure on replacement equipment.
Solution
THREE60’s qualified inspection technicians and engineers provide LOLER inspections and load testing for lifting assets across the fleet, supporting vessels from Portsmouth and Devonport to Greenock, Kyle of Lochalsh and Aberdeen.
The team reviewed the existing inspection programme and aligned equipment around a standard six-monthly inspection cycle, reducing repeat vessel visits and creating a more efficient approach to ongoing lifting asset management.
Result
The revised approach reduced the cost of inspection and maintenance activities while delivering a more than 50% reduction in spend on new lifting equipment.
The relationship has continued since the initial contract award in 2016, with THREE60 subsequently securing two contract extensions, reflecting the long-term value of the service provided.
