THREE60 Energy was engaged by a longstanding customer and global ship management provider to carry out five-yearly crane inspections and testing onboard a vessel at anchorage in Cork, Ireland.
With a tight deadline before the vessel’s scheduled departure, the team needed to rapidly mobilise specialist personnel and testing equipment from Aberdeen to complete the scope in line with ABS class requirements.
Challenge
Five onboard cranes required thorough examination, functional testing and load testing to support reclassification for a further five years.
Limited availability of suitable load-testing equipment in Cork, combined with the urgency of the scope, meant THREE60 needed to mobilise the required equipment and technicians quickly without impacting the vessel’s planned departure.
Solution
THREE60’s lifting equipment inspectors transported the specialist testing equipment from Aberdeen to Cork via a 12-hour road and ferry mobilisation.
Once onboard, the team thoroughly examined all five cranes and completed functional and overload testing in accordance with class requirements, using a combination of waterbags and calibrated load cells to provide accurate loading.
Following completion, the required inspection certification was uploaded to the online inspection database for review by the vessel’s Master.
Result
THREE60 successfully inspected and tested all five cranes within the required timeframe, enabling the vessel to depart port as scheduled.
The completed examinations and certification supported the vessel’s ABS reclassification for a further five years, demonstrating THREE60’s ability to respond rapidly to time-critical inspection and testing requirements.
