Reducing Cost and Risk During a 275-Tonne Crane Load Test

THREE60 Energy completed a 275-tonne load test of a KENZ crane onboard a Dive Support Vessel in Terneuzen, the Netherlands.

THREE60 Energy completed a 275-tonne load test of a KENZ crane onboard a Dive Support Vessel in Terneuzen, the Netherlands.

Rather than using the conventional spreader beam arrangement typically required for a load test of this capacity, THREE60 developed an alternative methodology designed to simplify the test while reducing cost and improving safety.

Challenge

A load test of this scale would ordinarily require a spreader beam, adding equipment, rigging complexity and cost to the scope.

The conventional arrangement would also require equalising monitoring while waterbags at each end of the spreader beam were filled, introducing additional considerations during execution.

Solution

THREE60 developed a bespoke method statement that enabled the 275-tonne test to be completed without a spreader beam.

The revised methodology simplified the rigging arrangement and removed the requirement for equalising monitoring during waterbag filling, providing a more efficient approach to executing the test.

Result

The 275-tonne crane load test was successfully completed using the alternative methodology.

By eliminating the spreader beam, THREE60 reduced the cost of the test while simplifying the rigging arrangement and improving safety, delivering a practical solution tailored to the client’s requirements.
