Challenge
A UKCS operator engaged THREE60 Energy to assess the feasibility of adapting a normally unattended offshore installation to support extended personnel rotations while retaining its existing operating classification.
The proposed change required consideration beyond the accommodation facilities themselves, including the impact of increased personnel numbers on critical safety and production systems, installation constraints and the wider offshore operating environment.
Solution
Working collaboratively with the operator, THREE60 undertook a concept and Pre-FEED study to assess the feasibility of installing a new permanent accommodation module with capacity for 22 personnel and the potential for future expansion.
A comprehensive review of critical safety and production systems was undertaken to understand the impact of increased personnel presence on the asset and identify where new or modified systems would be required.
High-level 3D Navisworks modelling was used to visualise the proposed modifications and assess key installation considerations, including heavy-lift strategy and options, tie-in requirements and management of available laydown space.
The study brought these technical findings together with techno-economic evaluation to establish the principal project cost drivers and assess potential commercial and execution models.
Result
THREE60 delivered a clearly defined scope and presented the study findings to the operator’s CAPEX review team, supported by an accessible suite of technical reports and presentations.
The work provided a clear understanding of the key technical considerations, installation requirements, cost drivers and commercial options, giving the operator the information required to evaluate the project and inform subsequent investment decisions.
