Injectivity Enhancement of WAG Wells in the North Sea

THREE60 Energy was engaged to identify the causes of the reduced injectivity and develop solutions to restore well performance.

Following interventions in spring 2020, two Water Alternating Gas (WAG) injection wells on the Norwegian Continental Shelf were unable to achieve the expected injection rates.

This created concerns around the operator’s ability to inject produced gas, manage water disposal and provide the pressure support required for oil production from the Sandnør formation. THREE60 Energy was engaged to identify the causes of the reduced injectivity and develop solutions to restore well performance.

Challenge

Both wells were performing below their expected injectivity levels, potentially impacting wider field operations and production.

The client needed to understand the underlying causes of the poor performance and identify practical measures that could enhance injectivity and support reliable ongoing operation.

Solution

THREE60 undertook a comprehensive technical assessment to investigate the factors contributing to poor injectivity in both wells.

Based on the findings, the team developed and implemented a plan to improve well performance and restore injection capability, alongside identifying further actions to support longer-term injectivity.

Result

The work successfully restored injectivity across the wells, improving their performance and supporting more efficient operation.

THREE60 also recommended further actions to maintain and enhance injectivity, providing the client with a clear path for managing future well performance.
