THREE60 Energy’s Lifting Equipment Safety Management System (LESMS) was developed in response to a UK Government requirement for a consistent approach to managing lifting equipment compliance across the Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary.
Following its successful use across the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, the system was selected for implementation onboard four new Tide-class vessels: RFA Tideforce, Tiderace, Tidespring and Tidesurge.
Challenge
Managing large populations of lifting equipment across multiple vessels creates significant challenges around compliance, documentation, inspection records and asset traceability.
A consistent system was required to provide greater visibility and control of lifting equipment information while supporting safety, regulatory compliance and efficient fleet-wide management.
Solution
THREE60’s LESMS provides a centralised system for recording and managing lifting equipment throughout its operational life.
Each item is recorded with a complete history, providing traceability of supporting documentation including load tests, external certification, non-destructive examinations and purchasing evidence. The system also enables statutory Reports of Thorough Examination to be created and retained electronically or in printed form.
Following its established use across the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, LESMS was implemented across the four new Tide-class vessels in partnership with A&P Group.
Result
LESMS provided a consistent approach to lifting equipment management across the Royal Fleet Auxiliary, supporting improved safety, compliance and cost control.
Its implementation on four Tide-class vessels extended a system that, at the time of the project, had undergone 19 years of continuous development, providing greater traceability and more efficient management of lifting equipment across multiple assets and vessels.
