THREE60 Energy designed and built a 400-tonne modular turntable spooler for Mooring Systems Ltd, providing a flexible solution for the handling and transportation of cables, umbilicals, dynamic risers and hoses.
Designed for mobility and adaptability, the system can be configured in either reel or basket mode and transported by both sea and road, enabling deployment from ports across the UK.
Challenge
The customer required a high-capacity system capable of handling a wide range of flexible products while providing the versatility to support different spooling requirements.
The solution also needed to protect the product during handling, deliver accurate spooling and minimise the time and complexity associated with mobilisation.
Solution
THREE60 developed a modular 400-tonne turntable capable of operating in either reel or basket configuration.
A dedicated spooling tower and large drum diameter provide product protection and accurate spooling, while the integrated Hydraulic Power Unit (HPU), redundant drives and dual-redundant braking system support efficient and reliable operation.
The mobile configuration allows the complete system to be transported by road or sea and deployed from any UK port.
Result
The completed system provides the capacity to handle approximately 20km of 100mm cable in a single batch, alongside a range of other flexible products.
Its modular design and integrated systems reduce mobilisation requirements while giving the customer a versatile handling solution that can be readily configured and deployed to meet different project needs.
