Challenge
The Andrew Field is located 225km northeast of Aberdeen. The platform weighing 19,000 tonnes, 17 platform wells, 8 subsea wells, 41km of subsea bundles/umbilicals and 2,500 tonnes of subsea equipment. The project spans all phases from CoP to final removal and disposal under strict safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Key challenges include ensuring safe execution, minimising post-CoP costs, and reducing long-term liability. Reputation and environmental responsibility remain priorities. The project targets zero high-potential incidents, lost time incidents, or environmental breaches, and aims to recycle 97% of topsides and jacket materials by weight. A major milestone is the early, safe transition to unmanned “lighthouse mode” and timely well P&A, in line with OEUK guidelines.
Solution
THREE60 has formed a Joint Venture with AF Offshore Decom to deliver an integrated decommissioning solution. Operating as one team, the JV manages operations, wells, subsea, EPRD, engineering, and procurement. THREE60 serves as Duty Holder for the installation, wells, and pipelines, ensuring compliance and safety. AF Offshore Decom contributes dismantling, removal, and recycling expertise. The team prioritises early planning and engineering to enable safe, efficient execution. Initial modifications support the transition to lighthouse mode, cutting ongoing costs and risks. Early P&A activities are advanced where feasible, with the JV’s unified model enabling faster decisions and shared accountability.
Result
Though in early stages, the project already aligns with client goals. Safety, compliance, and environmental responsibility are central to the JV’s approach. Preparations for lighthouse mode are underway, supported by focused engineering. Early planning positions the project to achieve its 97% recycling target through efficient dismantling and material recovery. Combining strengths in operations, project management, and EPRD, the THREE60 / AF Offshore Decom JV builds a solid foundation for responsible decommissioning. As progress continues, the JV is emerging as a key provider of late-life asset management in the UKCS, with a scalable model for future projects.
