THREE60 Energy Sign Second Multi-Million Pound Contract with Sumitomo Electric Industries

THREE60 Energy Group | May 21st, 2024

This is the second multi-million-pound order that THREE60 has received from SEI this year, having previously been awarded a contract to supply cable storage carousels. Together the components delivered across both scopes will see the realisation of SEI’s subsea cable handling capability at their state-of-the-art power cable factory.

Drawing on over five decades of engineering expertise in Glasgow, the team have worked in collaboration with SEI, providing guidance and support during the development of the factory layout to map out the journey of the power cables from manufacture through to delivery. In doing this, THREE60 have designed a cable transportation system which maximises all available space to increase the site’s cable storage capacity. The full scope of supply includes gantry crane systems, cable tensioners and both indoor and outdoor cable path lines. The implementation of the indoor and outdoor path lines allows cable transportation throughout the factory and to the external storage and testing facilities.

The full scope of supply will be designed at THREE60’s facilities in Glasgow and manufactured using THREE60’s established supply chain, before being transported to the Port of Nigg for assembly and testing. Maximising the use of the local Scottish supply chain as well as ease of transportation across Scotland was vital to both SEI and THREE60. In order to be transportable by road the systems have a modular design, ready for on-site assembly by THREE60’s team of engineers and technicians.

We are thrilled to announce our second multi-million-pound contract with SEI, marking a significant milestone for both THREE60 Energy and the Scottish supply chain. Building on our existing partnership, this second contract award is a testament to the growing positive relationship between our companies. It is a clear indication of the trust and confidence that SEI has in THREE60’s capabilities within the Scottish supply chain and showcases our advanced cross-sector engineering capabilities” comments Walter Thain, Group CEO of THREE60 Energy “The economic and employment benefits stemming from this collaboration will resonate throughout the region, as we continue to support local talent and contribute to Scotland’s thriving energy landscape, fostering a sustainable future for all.”

SEI will take delivery of the first components from Q2 2025.
