Job Purpose

Due to the continued growth and expansion of the THREE60 business across a variety of energy sectors, we are looking for a Principal Structural Designer to join our team in Aberdeen. 

Supervisory and Managerial Duties:

  1. Supervise the Discipline Designers within the project.

Basic Purpose of Role:

  1. Execute discipline design activities within budget and schedule, maintain integrity and quality of output and act as a discipline design focal point for the project.

Main Duties:

  1. Coordinate the execution of the project specific design activities (Concept, FEED, Technical Study & Detailed Design) for SCE
  2. Act as a discipline design focal point for the project
  3. Maintain the required technical quality of work
  4. Ensure scope and schedule changes are controlled in accordance with the Change Control Process
  5. Ensure planning and cost control on all scopes are maintained
  6. Ensure that design deliverables comply with the relevant Codes, Standards, Regulations and procedures
  7. Provide assistance to discipline design assigned personnel
  8. Ensure, as far as is practically possible, that all assigned work is carried out in compliance with the agreed budget and schedule
  9. Keep up-to-date with technical developments, National and International standards and legislative requirements related to the discipline design scope
  10. Review and approve work output of discipline design assigned personnel
  11. Review estimates and schedules
  12. Maintain good communication with the Client
  13. Visit Assets when necessary
  14. Assist the Head of Design and others when requested in the execution of their responsibilities and duties
  15. Ensure project specific discipline design filing system is maintained
  16. Encourage and provide lateral learning within the Project
  17. Be responsible for assessing effectiveness of working practices and systems with a view to continuously improving systems, personal and team performance
  18. Manage discipline design resources for the project.

Health and Safety Responsibilities:

  1. Take into account all aspects of the “Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974)”;
  2. Knowledge of, compliance with and promotion of office, site and contract/project health and safety guidelines and procedures;
  3. Actively promote and comply with the SCE Safety Management  System;
  4. Take into account all relevant procedures, guidance etc. relating to the work, which will ensure compliance with SCE Safety Management  System;
  5. Ensure all personnel working under their direction are aware of the requirements placed upon them by “Health and Safety at Work etc. Act (1974)” and the SCE Safety Management  System;
  6. Actively promote and encourage all personnel to care for themselves and others at all times.

COMPETENCE REQUIREMENTS

Education/Qualifications:

  1. HND qualification in relevant subject [ ]
  2. HNC qualification in relevant subject [ ]

Specific Training / Specialist Skills:

  1. Formal management training [ ]
  2. BOSIET Offshore survival certification [ ]
  3. Current offshore medical certificate [ ]
  4. Expert in the application of the relevant discipline design applications [ ]

Project Specific: N/A – corporate role

Experience:

  1. Significant experience in the practical application of the relevant design principles and their application to projects [ ]
  2. Considerable experience in the oil & gas or petrochemical industry [ ]
  3. Considerable knowledge of materials used within discipline [ ]
  4. Significant knowledge in the requirements and needs of other disciplines [ ]
  5. Considerable experience in managing discipline design teams  [ ]

Personal Skills:

  1. Capable of representing SCE and Client to business associates in a professional manner [ ]
  2. Team player [ ]
  3. Computer literate in Microsoft Office Applications [ ]
